Lockview Restaurant Menu

The building itself is non identifiable if you don't know what your looking. The only huge identifying make is the old 1970s neon sign out front. Upon first entry the place has a cozy feel to it and a great view from the second story. The menu is confusing at first with the look of a newspaper. The food was excellently with the exception of the fries which were dry and under fried. The white fish was fried and did not have a greasy taste to it. Overall it was a good restaurant for tourists and fish lovers

Our first time visiting downtown Sault Ste Marie, excellent choice. My husband is the most pickiest eater and we both LOVED the food. I had the reuben and he had the seafood combo. Wonderful food and great service. I highly recommend Lockview. Would definitely visit again.

We love this restaurant, we had the whitefish and a Caesar salad, everything was so fresh and done to perfection and plenty of homemade tartar sauce. Excellent.

Went here for breakfast immediately with the place opened on a Sunday morning and got the southern omelette which was good but the eggs could have been a bit fluffier. A person that was with my at my table ordered pancakes and more than one person at the table tried them and they were not very good. I guess it's the flour mixture that they use that is advertised on the table. Very flat and grainy. We sat upstairs and loved being able to see the water from our table. Have also had Lock View for dinner once and the food was okay but not amazing. Although, the chocolate cake they had that night was FANTASTIC.

A nice quaint restaurant going back over 40 years. Known for their very fresh whitefish and walleye from the Great Lakes. Nautical atmosphere and wooden floors contribute to a pleasant experience.

It's a tradition for us to eat here the first night of vacation every year! The whitefish is delicious. I prefer mine simply broiled. The view of the locks is great! This is a family favorite restaurant of ours!

Awesome dinners and appetizers. We had the deep fried cauliflower, potato skins, whitefish and fried shrimp. Everything was fantastic. Service was great too! And the placemats were really neat - designed as newspapers...cute.

  • Tammy R.

Very disappointed. Could not see the Locks. We even sat upstairs by the windows & could only see the park across the street. Poor service. Asked waitress twice how much longer our food would be. She never followed up with us...only said -having problems in the kitchen. We waited 30 minutes and ended up leaving.

Food was great and so was the service. Alicia was extremely friendly and pleasant to be around. She also worked her tail off too. The whitefish with Cajun seasoning was delicious. Stop by if you're checking out the Soo Locks.

This was our first time here and the reviews were right! The whitefish was great! Fried chicken was also excellent. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The place was jam packed but we were seated very quickly and it was fun to see the ships as they moved they the canal.

Was in town on business and stopped by with a few associates. Ordered the fried perch basket. Food wasn't anything to write home about. Perch was a bit over-fried but the taste was decent enough. The fries were only so-so. Best part of the meal was probably the coleslaw. Service was disappointing. Waitress never came by again to fill up our empty glasses even though she services the next table a number of times.

    (2)
  • Aaron Z.

Great coleslaw and Cajun walleye. The carrots were over-steamed but still tasted good. Service was good albeit a slight bit slow.

  • Rebeka M.

Whitefish was excellent and the mashed potatoes were delicious. Service was prompt and friendly. I would go back again next time I am in the Soo.

Had the whitefish and steak special one Mother's Day and was highly impressed. Usually got chicken tenders and potato skins (appetizers) and those were always delicious too. Great food, reasonable prices, nice atmosphere. Always had friendly service and really appreciated it.

Here's the thing... I've never had whitefish before. Didn't even know it was a thing. Especially didn't even know it was a "Yooper thing" (Google Yooper if you are confused.) But I figured if I was gonna eat it, I wanted it grilled and not fried, deep fried, or baked with any sorta breading. I wanted it lightly seasoned with some solid spices. And I was not disappointed. Of the two times I went, the portions were unbelievably enormous. I mean, these fish were ridiculous. I was a fan of the whitefish over the walleye, but my coworker preferred the walleye, so I guess you'll just have to try both. I'd recommend getting the loaded baked potato as your side. The salad is forgettable, especially compared to the fish. Prices are high, but you definitely are full by the end of the meal! Beer on draft is severely limited but (two) Bells Two Hearted in a frosty mug really quenched my thirst!

Stopped for dinner after viewing the locks. I had a pastie and DH had the cedar planked salmon. My pastie was good, it came with gravy. The pastry was very flaky and delicious. DH's salmon was also very good. He had a Cesar salad too. It was just an ok Cesar salad.

Food was disappointing considering the ratings. Look around because there is other options.

Great sandwiches, wraps and whitefish any way you like it: baked, fried, Cajun, etc. Lots of character with an awesome view of the locks. Great homemade desserts, too. I had the traditional U.P. pasty and was pleased.

    (4)
  • Audrey T.

We couldn't decide between the pasty and the fried perch, so we got both and shared them! Everything was AMAZING and we highly recommend eating here. Service was great too!

  • Gina B.

The food here was good and our waitress was very nice but I'm leaving a negative review because I was charged much more for my side dishes I order because I did not order an actual meal. I asked to speak with the manager because these inflated prices were not listed on menu and the manager was extremely rude, stating there is just not enough room on the menu to list the actual prices. I felt this response was very unfair and she was blaming me for not knowing I would have to pay $4 extra for small side dishes. She should know better than to treat her customers like that. I will not be returning here, nor would I recommend this place to others.

  • April A.

We ate here for lunch and kids chicken strips were delicious! Husband and I had whitefish. I had the basket and he had the sandwich. So fresh and the batter was light and flaky. I rarely order fish because it's usually not cooked the best. I LOVED the whitefish here! It was so cool to watch the locks while we ate. You should sit upstairs to get the best view!

    (5)
  • Emmy S.

Wonderful view, delicious food, and reasonably priced!! If you love twice baked potatoes then I recommend trying them Lockview style. Best potatoes ever!! Loved the food and the experience

Watched the American Integrity pass through the canal while eating dinner. Had the sampler of fish and they were all excellently prepared! Very moist and great portions. The decor is 70s and nautical but really well maintained and nice. Recommend checking this place out if you want to grab local fish and watch the ships!

    (4)
  • Chloe G.

Loved it! The dining service was friendly and fast. The food was well priced with good sized portions. The interior had an older nautical theme but was well maintained. I greatly enjoyed the pastie I ordered and saw several other things that looked tasty. Would defiantly go for another visit.

Got the whitefish basket. It has two pieces 4 oz each. Looked small. Fries were heavy and soggy. Even my kids didn't eat them. White fish was just so so. The breading was the consistency of Long John Silvers. They left part of the skin on the fish before they fried it which gave it a fishy taste. If you picked it off you didn't have any breading on that side. Didn't like spending $35 for the food we received. My father had a sangria. Came in a small glass and he didn't like it. Would not go back.

    (1)
  • J C.

I got the whitefish sandwich and it was delicious! but I cant compare to any comparable establishments near by... I dined with 4 others and they got non-seafood meals and if I had, I would not go back. Also while our server was very friendly, they seemed understaffed and therefore overall service was wanting. If I was back in the area I would go back but only get the fish and make sure I had some time to burn. Otherwise, its a cozy spot across the street from the locks.

  • Alicia D.

Placed a carryout order, got it home and was sadly, very disappointed. I ordered the whitefish rueben after being told it was pretty good (must be hit or miss) the one half of my sandwich barely had any fish on it. The flavor of the other half was just so so and the bread was soggy. I would also strongly urge you NOT to order the sweet potato fries. I've never had bad sweet potato fries; well until now that is. Sigh.... On the other hand my husband had the Cajun whitefish basket and that at least had decent flavor and the fries were a little easier on the taste buds. Not many options in the Soo... If you decide to try it; please skip the sweet potato fries.

Absolutely delicious lunch. We had the Walleye and the Whitefish, both grilled, and they were wonderful. Great, friendly service as well. The side dishes were less remarkable, hence the 4-star rating. My rice was one solid mass and must have been sitting in the kitchen for some time. On the other hand, my wife loved her baked potato. Well worth a visit, and definitely try the whitefish, walleye or perch. They're fresh from the lake!

    (4)
  • Michael G.

Absolutely the best place in town to have whitefish. If you are here for more than one night make sure you have it blackened and plain. You won't be disappointed. We went about 13 years ago and it's just as good now as it was back then. We didn't get to try their breakfast as we ate at franks and really enjoyed it so much that we kept going back.

    (5)
  • Joe C.

Stopped in for breakfast. The service was fast and friendly. We had the western omelette, pancakes, hash browns and rye toast. Everything was made from scratch and delicious. The omelette had nice chunks of ham, green peppers & onions and cheddar cheese. The rye toast was awesome.

    (5)
  • Beth S.

The whitefish was excellent! Both the regular and Cajun whitefish were a hit. The cheeseburger was also very good. Good kids meal choices too.

    (4)
  • Carolyn P.

Service was good. As far as the food--it was pretty mediocure. The fish was good and fresh(!) (we had a whitefish & a walleye), but the biscuit was floury, the potatoes were the standard bulk mashed potatoes And the gravy from a can...nothing special. Probably won't stop here again.

    (3)
  • JR M.

Interior is outdated, service was good. Food was okay, despite a slightly overlooked chicken sandwich & whitefish sandwich. Chicken Caesar & crispy chicken salads were good. Not sure if I'd go back if I'm ever in Sault Ste. Marie again, but it's hard for me to judge by just a salad.

    (3)
  • Sandy A.

The only reason it's a four instead of five is because the upstairs isn't always open, but the food is fantastic and I've always gotten great service. The view is pretty cool if you sit upstairs, as it's right across from the Locks. The restaurant is also right by the downtown stores. it's ideal if you're a visitor.

Came here for dinner one night, and my fiancee and I both liked it so much we can back for breakfast the next morning. For dinner I got a reuben sandwich and she got the grilled pork chops. Reuben was great, I mean it's a reuben. Hard to do it wrong. Grilled pork chops, on the other hand, were amazing. Perfectly succulent and very, very tasty. Quite impressed with how they turned out. Waitress was very nice as well, and quick to refill water and check up on us. Breakfast the next morning was great as well. They have plenty on the menu, and I opted for a breakfast wrap called The Poe. My fiancee got steak and eggs. Both were fantastic, and the steak was actually medium-rare which was nice (she ordered medium-rare). Overall the place was fairly inexpensive too, I think dinner was less than $30 and a couple of big breakfasts was only around $20 (with tip and tax).

  • Chris S.

What a great find. No the upstairs was not open so we didn't get to actually view the locks but that was ok. The whitefish was excellent but what made the experience super was the service. Excellent Margaritas made on the fly. I won't give away the server's secret ingredient but they were great! Definitely recommend this place!

  • Mandy S.

The fish was so greasy we couldn't even finish it (perch) I'm certain they claimed it was a pound of fish because there was so much grease in it. For four of us to eat (with ONE beer and only TWO actual dinners) we spent $75.00, absurd, when you consider the only good item was the cole slaw. If you think they have good fish, I invite you to expand your horizons.

had lunch here with my family and thought it was pretty much standard fare. got to try the fried whitefish, grilled chicken sandwich, and fried oysters. i love the fried oysters! i actually had been here years and years ago and remembered having gotten them. i like a battered fried food better than i like a breaded one, like the one is here, but it was also just hot and good. the whitefish was okay, but not great, it came in what looked like a huge basket but was really just a deceptive container that held not that many pieces. chicken sandwich was dry, like chicken is, and came on bread that was really really normal. there's nothing to say about it really. we all got food that came with fries, so we subbed one side out for a salad. the salad was just iceberg lettuce. the fries were hot but not really crispy, and kind of thicker than i like them. the service was decent too, but not especially friendly. i don't think our waitress cared about us too much and wasn't too attentive, but as least we got our food and had what we needed. i think this is the only real restaurant on this stretch, so it's nice to stop by here after heading to the locks - kind of extends the experience. but as far as the actual food goes, it's fine, but not interesting.

The whitefish is excellent!!! Whether you have the sandwich, basket or dinner...it's fresh and cooked perfectly!! The stuffed shrimp are yummy too as well as the sun-dried tomato wrap. Service was excellent, attentive and experienced. Dinner on Wednesday evening...530 pm..no wait!! Definitely visit if you are in the Soo and want fresh Lake Superior whitefish.

Wow! This restaurant was recommended by the hotel staff of the HIE and what a great recommendation it was! My husband had the sirloin and asked for Cajun seasoning to be added. He ate every bite on his plate. I had the whitefish, also cooked with Cajun seasoning. It was the mildest and tastiest fish I have had in yeas. Service was fast and friendly. This place doesn't have the appearance of a 4 star, but the food and service warrant that. Less impressive features were wine list, dessert and lock view. We definitely will return here if we ever visit the soo locks again.

What a great find. No the upstairs was not open so we didn't get to actually view the locks but that was ok. The whitefish was excellent but what made the experience super was the service. Excellent Margaritas made on the fly. I won't give away the server's secret ingredient but they were great! Definitely recommend this place!

Stopped in for breakfast. The service was fast and friendly. We had the western omelette, pancakes, hash browns and rye toast. Everything was made from scratch and delicious. The omelette had nice chunks of ham, green peppers & onions and cheddar cheese. The rye toast was awesome.

The whitefish was excellent! Both the regular and Cajun whitefish were a hit. The cheeseburger was also very good. Good kids meal choices too.
